Jagadish Ghimire, 68

Jagadish GhimireWriter Jagadish Ghimire died on Thursday morning at the age of 68. He had spent the last month under intensive care after a recurrence of cancer.

Ghimire was diagnosed of multiple myeloma eight years ago and had undergone successful treatment. The book Antarmanko Yatra he then wrote about his fight with cancer won the Madan Puraskar 2064 for being a milestone achievement in Nepali prose.

His last work was Sakas, a novel about the subalterns in modern Nepali history. Other published works include novels Lilam, Sabiti, Bardi, a play Santan and a collection of short stories.

Ghimire was also a social worker, political and social analyst, as well as a founding chairman of Tilganga Eye Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Durga and children Himal and Joon.
