A week after the government put a price on the heads of the Maoist top brass, reactions and sharp criticism continue to pour in. The National Human Rights Commission is the latest to join the chorus of voices denouncing the government's announcement that it would give out cash prizes for the Maoists, dead or alive. The commission says that this increases the possibility of violating the basic right citizens have to life, and undermines the principles of a lawful state. Left leaders have also been vocal in their disagreement with the government. Leaders of Masal and Ekata Kendra issued a press release Tuesday saying that the government's move doesn't seek to solve the Maoist problem through political means, but by force.
