Indian border police

Three Indian states bordering Nepal-West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh-are to set up a special police force to check smuggling of arms and ammunition and narcotics along the Indo-Nepal border, reported The Times of India newspaper. The Indian finance ministry has already agreed to the proposal and is likely to be forwarded for cabinet approval early next month. The idea is to set up 53 police stations-one every 10 to 15 kilometres-and seven check posts in eight Indian districts bordering Nepal. The border force will consist of 1,000 personnel, including armed policemen and intelligence officials.
