Edward Said in his interview ("A serious anti-colonial revolt", #21) may not know about it, but you as a citizen of a neighbouring country surely cannot ignore that Chinese troops entered Tibet in 1949, and settled the country in 1959, forcing the Tibetan government into exile in India. The occupation has now lasted for more than 50 years, and more than 120,000 people have died. I don't know what to call it except a military occupation. I also saw the article "Made in China" by Mahendra Lama (#20). The term "quality" appears more than once in your columns. Some weeks ago I bought a pair of Chinese speakers for a CD player at a market not far from New Road. These speakers didn't produce any sound when I plugged them in because the connections weren't fixed properly, and it was not connected with the outgoing cable. Definitely not the fine quality you speak of.
