The Rana Group, joint venture partners of the Kolkata-based ITC, has sold 10 percent of its shares in Surya Tobacco to become a subsidiary of its JV partner. The deal became effective on 20 August. ITC, having acquired 56,000 ordinary shares of Rs100 each, now owns 59 percent of the company's stock. The British American Tobacco Company holds the remaining two percent. The 16-year-old Surya Tobacco Ltd., the largest manufacturing company in Nepal, which is now said to be operating with zero debt is now planning to expand to other agro-businesses.
