The government does not have any proper records of idols stolen from the country. All it has is a record of items recovered. The Archaeology Department says the police recovered 1,300 stolen idols so far and says thefts are still rampant. "It is still going on," said the department's director general Kosh Prasad Acharya. "The only difference now is that people are aware about these things." According to the department, an exclusive program for the conservation of idols and monuments in the country is very necessary. "We working on a plan," Acharya said. The greatest obstacle is a lack of funds. Budgetary constraints resulted in the demolition of a century old building at Tangal for the new offices of the CIAA. "We don't have the money to conserve the historic building, and it was in a dilapidated state, so we allowed the commission to demolish it."
