Anti-climax

BIKRAM RAI

With one week to go for the deadline, the country is headed for another constitutional anti-climax.

The four main parties have intensified back-room negotiations on the two main stumbling blocks: decommissioning of Maoist fighters and justifying another extension to a seriously disillusioned country. The fact that senior leaders could not be reached for soundbites all day Thursday is probably a good sign.

Maoist leader Ram Karki says, "Thursday's meeting will address these points together to forward the peace process, even if this means changing the government or amending the interim constitution." Inspite of its strong rhetoric in the media, Congress too has has little choice but to agree to extension. "We have cautioned the Maoists that NC will sit for talks to avert untoward situation but it will not compromise on fundamentals of democracy." Congress central committee member Deep Kumar Upadhya told Nepali Times.

There are positive signs that even the parties that were against CA extension or bargaining hard to try to get into government in return for acceptance have now come on board. Right across the political spectrum, leaders seem to have seen the writing on the wall from last week's Himalmedia poll and all agree that a national unity government is the only way forward. However, the trust deficit between the NC and the Maoists is still so great that it is unlikely to be cleared in the few days that are left.

If the leaders of the Government can not keep promises they announce, then there is no need to waste everyones money on paying people who can not deliver  the job they have promissed to deliver. This very principle must be the basis for any project we approach.Whoever blames the NC for not being flexible must be seeing not further than his nose. The only party who needs to take responsibility is Dahal;s and Khanal's party as signed agreements by them or with the presence of these leaders is the only reason why we can not move ahead. It is the obstinate attitude of these two individuals who have no understanding or caring for anyone in the society as their empty  promises on illusionary life where everyone will work equally well and receive accordingly. These two leaders are the examples of how one doesn't need to work ,if one is capable of going blah blah blah.

I ask everyone in the society.

Is that what you want from your leaders and politicians? We need promises to be fulfilled and only then there is a progress.Small, but it is a progress.Only when the work is done, either tiny or big project, only then there is a progress .

We can not allow waste time and money on people who only are at the leadership because they can talk,we need leaders who can deliver promises and only.

I wish NC to continue to have the backbone as they have now and stand they ground  as they are the only people who deliver and have interests of all the people in the long run in the mind and it is Democracy in its real meaning. And ,yes, they will have to work hard ,but do not give in ,you are on the right track.

My best wishes to all people who are working on delivering the promises and do not compromise the fundamentals of democracy.

I'd say there was absolutely no leadership ever. Whoever was in power. Infact all of these so called "caretakers" should be uprooted and let the younger generation who are brave enough to uphold the democracy and prove that leadership needs commitment, unbais, proven and stronger ethics.

Uproot the old and bring in new and fresh who can deliver leaderhsip.

The CA extension will happen in the last minute as previously. But before the ink is dry the politicians will be back to their old self of accusing other parties and we will waste the precious time and the constitution will remain unwritten.

There is no simple answer to the ills of Nepal; we the people will have to grin and bear it and hope this time around the politicians will stick to their "promises"
