Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Chairman of the CPN-Maoists Pushpa Kamal Dahal signed the Comprehensive Peace Treaty officially ending the more than decade long insurgency Tuesday evening in Kathmandu. Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula began reading the historic 10 point peace agreement stating that the Nepali people had become an example to the rest of the world by proving that we were capable of solving our own problems. The insurgency has cost more than 13000 lives and set back development in Nepal by decades.

Loud cheers rang out across the Tilicho Hall in the Birendra Convention Centre when Situala declared that the property belonging to late King Birendra and his deceased family would be nationalised along with various property in the name of King Gyanendra. The issue of the monarchy will be resolved through the constituent assembly elections.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala called the agreement "end of the politics of murder, violence, and terrorism and the beginning of a new history and politics of cooperation."

Speaking after exchanging copies of the agreement with Prime Minister Koirala leader of the CPN-Maoists Chairman Prachanda said This is a continuation of the social change and no power in the world can stop the process. The Nepali people have sent a message to the rest of the world on how to take the humanity forward through this.
