On the 21st day of its formation, the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee (ICDC) has formally began work. At a press conference held at its office at the Peace Secretariat, Singha Durbar today, coordinator of the committee and former justice of the Supreme Court, Laxman Prasad Aryal assured to finalize the interim constitution within the next 15 days.
Urging general public to come forward with suggestions, Aryal said that the committee would spend five days to collect advice from the public, draft the suggestions and give the interim statute a final shape.
According to Himalkhabar.com the press conference was called after Wednesday's meeting between Maoist and the government talks teams where ICDC was requested to start work as soon as possible.
The interim constitution will give the timeframe and process to conduct the constituent assembly elections and will suggest the formation of an appropriate alternative body to the House of Representatives.
The ICDC could not begin work because the government delayed in providing formal letters to the ministers and also due to the controversy surrounding woman representation in the committee.
