Senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sitraam Yechuri, who is in Kathmandu for a three-day visit, said that if Nepali Government sends an official letter to the Indian government about the release of Maoist leaders and party workers, the Indian government would start releasing the detained immediately.

"Nepali government hasn't sent an official letter as yet," said Yechuri talking to reporters on Saturday.

Yechuri met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist supremo Prachanda on Friday. After his meeting he said that both parties are committed to resolve the problems facing Nepal. Yechuri added that the biggest challenge for Nepal is arms management and establishment of interim government and said that the Maoists, seven parties and Nepali people have to come to an agreement as soon as possible.

He assured that India should have no objection towards possible role of the United Nations in Nepal's peace process. Yechuri said as a sovereign country, it was up to the people of Nepal to decide what role the UN should have in the peace process. "India should neither have any recommendation nor intervention in this regard," he added.
