The speaker of the House of Representatives, Subash Nembang took the oath of office and secrecy before parliamentarians on Wednesday. He also administered oath to other members of parliament, lawmakers and various other government officials.
Deputy Speaker Chitra Lekha Yadav, 12 National Assembly members, heads of the nine parliamentary committees and the parliamentary general secretary were also sworn in at the ceremony.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who returned to Kathmandu on Tuesday after a nine-day-long medical trip to Bangkok, was not present on the occasion due to ill health. Koirala along with other members of the cabinet are to be sworn in at a separate program soon.
Former royal ministers and members of the National Assembly, Yang Kila Sherpa and Roop Jyoti were sworn in. Also Minister Badri Prasad Mandal, who was interrogated by the high level Rayamajhi commission on Tuesday also took oath of office.
The House, has been adjourned from mid-June for 17 days to facilitate the ongoing peace process. It was summoned briefly today for the swearing in ceremony.
The oath-taking ceremony was held according House of Representatives Proclamation unanimously passed by the House on 18 May and the 10 June House Regulation.
