Former ministers of the royal regime, Kamal Thapa, Shrish Shamsher Rana, Tanka Dhakal, Rameshnath Pandey, and Nikshya Shamsher Rana have been arrested by the government today. The former ministers of Home, Information and Communications, Foreign Affairs, and State have been served 30 day warrants by the government. They are being kept at the National Police Academy at Maharajgunj. The decision was taken by an emergency meeting of the cabinet held at the Prime Ministers residence this evening. The arrested have been charged with making statements aimed at disturbing public peace.
The Judicial Investigation Commission headed by former judge of the Supreme Court Krishna Jung Rayamajhi has also recommended the ministerial cabinet to suspend the three chiefs of security including Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyambhakta Thapa, Inspector General of Armed Police Force Sahabir Thapa, and chief of the National Investigation Department Devi Ram Sharma fearing that they may destroy proofs relating to cases of the suppression of the movement.
King Gyanendra today annulled six different ordinances issued during his direct rule under the recommendation of the cabinet.
