Many Times

Every word in Nepali Times is a breath of fresh air! It just drips with excellence, in subject matter, investigative journalism, eye-appeal, English writing, humour, insight...

I really appreciate your taking up the defence of Novel Kishore Rai. Too often the media allow allegations to hang out there without comment long after they\'ve proved false, and good people get hurt in the process. You took the high road.

I do hear the concerns of your readers who say Nepali Times is expensive. After all, it\'s the price of tea and momos in a sidewalk cafe. In my 11 years in Nepal I am distressed by the get it cheaper syndrome, which leads sadly to mediocrity, or worse. You get what you pay for, more and more people are recognising that quality costs less in the long run. Democracy demands a quality press. Maybe it\'s even worth a few cups of tea.

I read the article about Dr Novel Kishore Rai\'s bad experience with his credit card (Nepali Times #1). Nobody in Germany will believe that he or his wife misused a card. We esteem Dr Rai and there is absolutely no doubt about his integrity. He is sorely missed in Germany. Dr Rai can be sure he has "personal credit" for a lifetime in Germany.

You have reported that Ms Niru Shrestha was Miss Nepal 1998 in the article titled "Model Pilot" (Demo issue) in http://ww-yv.nepalnews.com/c ontents/nepalitimes/nevs2.htm #11 But, she appears to be only a 1st runner-up according to: http://www.nepalonline.net/ cybernepal/missnepal/awards\'98. htm

(Niru Shrestha was first runner up until Miss Nepal 1998 was de-crowned for not returning to Nepal. -Ed)

I have just gone through your number one issue. It is of international standard, something we\'d been waiting for a long time here. We hope you will maintain your quality. Services like Grindlays Dal Bhat Index were to the point and very useful for comparison.

No more slaughter of the syntax, no more grammatical gouging or terrible typos. I am glad and relieved to see that finally we do have a publication of quality.-Mind you, there could be improvements but at least we don\'t have to suffer through the repetitious scribblings of "this scribe\'s" muddled musings in the dailies.

I am writing to express my sin-cerest gratitude and my best wishes for coming out with a newspaper worthy of a deeper scrutiny than a mere glance at the headlines. I have read all the articles available on line with the utmost interest and enjoyment. I am looking forward to your first issue with great anticipation for more insightful articles.

I read the inaugural issue of the much-hyped \'Nepali Times\'. Your first editorial was more

dedicated to self-praise rather than outlining your views on burning issues confronting the nation. You even tried to justify your act by quoting Arthur Miller. There is nothing wrong in having pride in one\'s stature but it would have sounded sweeter, had you left it for your reader. Wishing you all the best.

I got to chance to see your paper on the Internet from Singapore. I like it very much. It is the only Nepali English paper with good quality, my Nepali friends he\' hooked. Just keep it up.
