Dil Kumari Oli, 20, brought her month-old baby boy along to the SLC examination centre in Butwal this week. She gave her English exam nursing her baby, and is also taking exams in Economics and Education in the coming week.

She has brought along her fifth grader niece, Ganga, to the exam room. "If the baby cries, I give him to my aunt to breast-feed," says Ganga.

Dil Kumari's husband is a former Maoist guerrilla and she had completed up to Grade 8 in Dang.

We have been involved in providing day care and Early Childhood Care and Development centres for new born and children so that women and girl mothers can go to school. It is high time for the Nepal government, World Bank, INGOs and National NGOs to fund such centers so that women with children can go to school and get an educaion. We need to work to enhance ''Nepali woman's legendary resilience, patience and belief in the future'' as mentioned by 4. KiranL above.

Well, a multitasking well done! ... However this is unacceptable in an examination hall in my opinion. This sort of situation creates other trauma then the trauma which your facing in the exams itself. If I were giving an exam in that particular hall and there was this woman who was breast feeding her child I would be distracted. The following would have had happened:

1) Eyes will start lingering to the thing which is the center of attraction.

2) The children will make noise and it cannot be controlled.

This will give people reason to say they were in an extra ordinary class where they were distracted by a woman breast feeding her child in the exam hall as a result of distraction affected result!

If this has to be sorted out, the government can provide a room where they could have a place for the infants of all the parents who are giving their SLC examination.

I would like to appreciate Mr. Krishna of what he has taken, but I would like to have his comments on the situations it produced while the others were giving their examinations.
