Maoist leaders in Kathmandu



After a weeklong tour to the far-western Doti district where Maoist cadres were briefed on the recent political developments, Maoist supreme Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai returned to Kathmandu for another round of talks.

It is understood that the talks between the Maoist and seven party alliance will take place after Prime Minister GP Koirala's return from Thailand on Tuesday. According to Himalkhabar.com, the Maoist leadership will discuss the controversy surrounding Chairman Prachanda's statement about Nepali Army, remaining confusions over the recently reached 8-point agreement between the seven party alliance and the Maoists, arms management and interim constitution.

"We will discuss women's participation in interim constitution drafting committee, ceasefire monitoring committee and the role of UN in arms management," a source close to the Maoists said. The government-Maoist leadership will decide whether or not to go for another round of talks after Prachanda and Koirala's informal talks. "If the situation demands for another summit talk, we will call for one, otherwise our leadership will only be involved in informal talks with the government," the source told us.

Prachanda is meeting with seven party leaders and intellectuals this week. Details from his meeting with UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today morning is awaited.
