Senior CPN-Maoist leader CP Gajurel (Gaurav) who was caught trying to fly to London from Chennai in 2003 on a fake passport has two more months before his three year sentence ends. Another senior leader Mohan Vaidya was caught in 2003 in West Bengal, India while there for an eye treatment.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had said he had requested the Indian authorities to release Maoist prisoners on his recent visit. Koirala said the Indian government had responded positively in accordance with which Maoist leaders Mohan Vaidya, CP Gajurel and 140 others will soon be released from different jails across India.
In Nepal the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) government released Maoist prisoners across the country after yesterday's cabinet's decision to scrap the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Control and Punishment) Act/Ordinance. The government had earlier removed the terrorist and price tag and withdrawn the red corner notice.
The government's decision to free more Maoist prisoners soon has been taken as measures to strengthen the peace talks.
