This movement has become 10 times more powerful than the 1990 people's movement. The Nepali people have never been as ready for change as they are today, which is clear from the numbers joining street protests. The palace is obviously very scared and is using all its means to suppress the movement. The king is desperately trying to deceive the Nepali people by creating false notions about the movement and meeting with leaders from various parts of the world but nothing will come out of those talks. Those who have come to the streets have vowed not to give up until Nepal is a republic. In the beginning, the parties were torn between constitutional monarchy and republicanism but now they see that republicanism is the way to go.

Protesters are still wary of the leadership but confident that the movement cannot be stopped by some hollow appeal from above. The leadership in Kathmandu deliberately tried to tone down the movement during the New Year because they expected the king to call them for talks. But the movement proceeded gracefully. Protesters organised various programs to help those injured in street demonstrations, they donated blood and raised funds to help the injured. Professional organisations and institutions also joined.

New leaders were born from all walks of life. Family members of security forces are also joining, so the day when security forces participate in the movement cannot be far away. At first the big parties did not show much enthusiasm but when the Maoists started blockading highways and vandalizing statues of the royals, the seven parties were compelled to continue the movement. What will happen if this successful movement is betrayed by an agreement made by its leaders? This question cannot be ignored because party workers and those taking to the streets would be the targets of state sponsored atrocities. Leaders and party workers would not be able to live in peace. Employees who have protested could forget about going back to work or even living decent lives. But the possibilities are endless for those who struggle on. It may be difficult now but always remember that we are fighting for a better future.
