A protestor was killed and two others injured when a soldier guarding the Nepal Telecom tower in Mahendrapul opened fire at a demonstration in Pokhara Saturday.
Bhimsen Dahal, who ran a cyber caf? at Hotel Anandban, Prithivichowk was shot dead by security men while Roshan Gurung, Gangadhar Baral and Milan Lamsal were fatally wounded. Similarly Balram Bhandari was injured when police charged batons at the protestors in Pokhara today. Agitated crowd ransacked the Pokhara Municipality building where security personnel used tear gas to control angry protestors. Demonstrations have also continued in Baglung where journalists have also been injured and are undergoing recovery at the zonal hospital. Protestors have come out in the streets defying the curfew in the district headquarters of Myagdi, Beni. Ongoing protests have also been reported in Simara, Bara where protestors showed black flags to Durga Pokhrel, State Minister for Women Children and Social Welfare. Three women sitting inside their homes were also fatally injured in Chitwan when security personnel opened fire. Government offices including the municipality building and the district forest office have been ransacked by the protestors. Demonstrations continued in Narayangadh where police used several rounds of tear gas. The local administration has announced curfew in Naryangadh from 6PM today to 4AM tomorrow morning and again from 10AM to 6PM tomorrow.
In Kathmandu, prominent human rights activists, civil society members and journalists who were defying the curfew and protesting near the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgung, were arrested at 4PM. Among those arrested this afternoon are Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Kapil Shrestha, Sundar Mani Dixit, Daman Nath Dhungana and Kanak Mani Dixit.
