Reports are coming in of the seven political parties defying the 10AM - 9PM curfew declared today by the government in the capital. In Basantapur the parties have succeeded in defying the ban while the Himsa Birodh Andolan has come out with a protest in Maharajgunj.

Thousands are reported to be out in Kiritpur's Naya Bajar with the police failing to control demonstration. The protestors vandalised the house belonging to the town's deputy mayor. In Madyapur Thimi demonstrators clashed with the police. The protestors destroyed the police beat in Kaushaltar. Reports of clashes between demonstrators and the police are also coming in from Balaju, Maitidevi, and Chabahil.

Mobile phone lines have also been disconnected since early hours of Saturday morning.

Meanwhile in Kapilvastu's Taulihawa 11 people including civilians were killed in overnight clashes between government forces which started at 10PM on Friday evening. Nine others also died in clashes in Rupandehi's Butwal where the rebels began attacking the security force base at 8PM last night. Ashok Thapa, a civilian from Jyotinagar was among those killed in Butwal. The bodies of seven Maoist rebels have been recovered in Butwal and many of the security forces are known to be injured. However battalion commander Narendra Rawal denied the army had suffered any casualties to our correspondent JB Pun. The rebels also attacked the training bases of security forces in Jyotinagar, Chure jungle, and Sukhanagar simultaneously. The rebels freed 110 prisoners from the Kapilvastu jail during the attack. Two army personnel, two police personnel, one civilian and six rebels are known to have died during the attack according to Ramraj Pokhrel a local journalist.

Curfew has been declared from 8:30AM - 4PM during the day and 6PM-9PM in the evening in Siddarthanagar, Butwal municipality and the surrounding areas.
