More good news on visitor numbers. Air arrivals are up by 37 percent at the half-year mark compared to the same period in 2003. But the totals are still 33 percent below the 1999 high. There is still some way to go before we can say Nepal's tourism industry is truly back on track. Interestingly, over the last month, arrivals from the UK, US, Germany, France and China all went up, but the number of Indian arrivals registered the first decline this year, decreasing by eight percent. Those in the business attribute this to the lack of regular flights between India and Nepal, plus the transport strikes and bandas, which lead to a series of cancellations. However, with the addition of flights by Jet Airways in June and Air Sahara this month, odds are Indian arrivals will grow rapidly.
