THIMP-Businessmen from Nepal and Bhutan met last week in Thimphu to discuss a new bilateral trade treaty. A memorandum of understanding on a Joint Economic Commission, signed by the Bhutanese and Nepali Chambers of Commerce, was the first formal step to foster business links between the two countries. The minister for trade and industry, Khandu Wangchuk said he hoped the private sector in the two countries could work together to expand trade markets. FNCCI's Suraj Vaidya, led a 20 member Nepali business delegation which included manufacturers of noodles, beer, vegetable oil and respresentatives of the airline, construction and dairy industries. Nepal and Bhutan agreed to identify products on which they could cut tariffs so as to bolster trade. Bhutan already has similar treaties with Bangladesh and India.
