King Gyanendra, who assumed executive powers last month, has directed Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand to take the necessary steps to amend existing rules and regulations to check yellow journalism. The royal directive comes in response to a petition submitted to His Majesty by members of the filmmaking community a week ago. They demanded action against the weekly newspaper, Jana Aastha, which published a nude photograph of actress Shrisha Karki who later hanged herself. The king asked the government to take action as soon as possible, in accordance with the existing laws.
