Even as three dozen or so Nepali prisoners rot in Thailand's jails, two more were caught recently. Hari Bahadur Gurung and Pore Ghale are now in the infamous Klong Prem prison, awaiting their sentence after their recent trial. Thai police closed in on the two on a pedestrian walkway in Bangkok and arrested them as "Afghan terrorists". Later Gurung and Ghale are said to have been physically and mentally abused and forced to sign a confession stating that they were involved in drug trafficking, according to human rights activists monitoring the case, who are also critical of the disinterest shown by the Nepali embassy in Bangkok.
Activists also report that two of the 24 Nepali prisoners at Bangkwang Prison outside Bangkok are very sick. One has gangrene in his right leg, and another has large growths all over his body. A female Nepali prisoner is also reported to be pregnant. (See also: Serving life in Bangkok, #91)
