Nepal might soon receive US funds to support the fight against the Maoists. A 29 May report of the US Senate Committee on Appropriations notes that the US administration proposes to provide funds to Nepal to support the government's campaign against "a ruthless Maoist insurgency". The report further states that, "the Committee is not aware of any information tying this insurgency to al Qaeda, but shares the administration's concern for the security and welfare of the Nepalese people." While the report condemns the atrocities committed by the Maoist guerrillas, it expresses concern about human rights violations by Nepali armed forces.
