I totally agree with Artha Beed (#59) that the Nepali rupee should not be pegged to the Indian Rupee, I believe there are two (wrong) reasons the government has not moved away from it:
1. In the current bleak economic and political situation the Nepali Rupee will only depreciate against the US dollar as soon as they remove the pegging, and no government wants to deal with this on top of all the political chaos.
2. A lot of the Nepali businesses are still controlled by people who have strong ties to India so they would like to see this stable exchange rate between the two countries. They are powerful, and their voices will be heard. Just my two cents....
