Earthquake victims who started rebuilding private houses before the agreement with the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) will be eligible for grants, if the buildings are earthquake resistant decided a meeting of the reconstruction committee chaired by Prime Minister KP Oli on Sunday.

According to Ram Prasad Thapaliya, spokesperson for the NRA, earthquake victims identified in the records of the Central Bureau of Statistics will be eligible for the reconstruction grant if their building standards met the technical criteria set by the NRA.

The NRA also said that those families who had not filed for property division in the concerned District Land Revenue Office before 25 April, 2015 will be eligible for grant as a single household.

Likewise, the NRA has also endorsed the guidelines for mobilisation of non-governmental organisations to be involved in reconstruction, lifting the three month old ban on INGO/NGOs to work in reconstruction. The NRA however said that the works of INGO/NGOs will be closely monitored to avoid overlaps.

In February, the NRA had directed INGO/NGOs stop reconstructing private homes destroyed or damaged in the earthquake without its approval. The reconstruction authority had also asked the non-governmental agencies not to distribute relief for reconstruction as well.
