Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the Nepali-Indian relations, which had turned frosty after the promulgation of the new Constitution, have been eased after his India visit.

Speaking at a press conference at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return from a 6-day India visit on Wednesday, Oli said, “The visit has been successful in mending the relation of the two countries.”

During the visit, Oli had held talks with Indian President Pranab Mukharjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high ranking officials.

He said his visit to Gujrat to observe the reconstruction of the city of Bhuj which was destroyed in the 2001 earthquake restored his enthusiasm and confidence. “The visit has assured us that reconstruction is possible no matter the scale of destruction,” said Oli. He also stated that the joint meeting for the Pancheswar Development Project will be held soon.

During his visit, India and Nepal signed nine agreements on matters concerning: the utilization of a $250 million grant from India for post-earthquake reconstruction, the strengthening of road infrastructure in the Tarai, cultural cooperation, improved transit between Nepal and Bangladesh through Kakarbhitta-Banglabandh corridor, operationalisation of Vishakapatnam port, rail transport to and from Vishakapatnam, rail transit for Nepal’s trade with Bangladesh, the inauguration of the Dhalkebar-Muzzafarpur line and the establishment of an eminent persons group.
