Government’s cabinet meeting on Sunday has concluded that the President had overstepped his jurisdiction in asking the parties to form a new government within a week. The meeting affirmed that the head of the state did not have any executive powers constitutionally and decided to formally remind the President about the same.

“The government will formally inform the President about cabinet’s views on Friday’s press statement issued by Shital Niwas,” informed government spokesperson Rajkishor Yadav after the meeting.

On Friday, the President had issued a press statement directing the government and the parties to find a new candidate for leading the government within a week.
