Ending weeks of speculation, the government has forwarded remaining two-third budget of rupees 300 billion to Shital Niwas on Tuesday. The government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Rajkishor Yadav said, the move was taken after all efforts to forge consensus with the opposition failed. The government has also announced that the next date for CA elections would be tentatively in mid-April. ” The budget has allocated 10 billion for the CA elections.”, Yadav informed reporters after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.

The decision to forward the budget was taken by the cabinet stating that final effort to forge agreement among the parties had failed. The parties had been engaged in talks along with the President for the last three days. The opposition had been rejecting UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s offer to bring out budget on mutual agreement stating that the ‘caretaker’ government did not have the right to bring out budget.

The meeting also extended the tenure of Special Committee for supervision, integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants by a month.

Meanwhile, the opposition Nepali Congress and UML have said, they have been ‘humiliated’ by government’s decision. NC President Sushil Koirala has condemned government’s decision as outrageous and said the government has closed doors for talks by unilaterally forwarding the budget.
