This week, the mainstream and the social media was rife with verbal exchange between the two executive heads. President Ram Baran Yadav has repeatedly expressed increasing concerns about deteriorating political environment. He has invited Prime Minister and the leaders of major parties to his office on more than few occasion in the last couple of months.

Many have criticised Yadav for his pro-active role in ending the deadlock, but his advisors say that the President is only exercising his constitutional duty. “ The media tends to exaggerate things at times.”, says Rajendra Dahal, political advisor to the President, referring to the news about verbal exchange between the Prime Minister and the President. According to him, the President is aware of his limited role in the ongoing process and has no intention to overstep jurisdiction. However, he has also made it clear to the parties and the government that he will continue to urge them to resolve the deadlock.

On Friday, Yadav called all the party leaders from the dissolved CA, as well as representatives from ruling coalition to Shital Niwas. He had also invited Vice President Paramananda Jha to the meeting. In a 7-point statement, he asked the leaders why they failed to reach consensus, despite lofty promises made in the last meeting. The statement further calls on the parties to clarify the roadmap for resolving the deadlock and appeals them to approach his office, if there is necessity.

However, in a subtle style of warning, the statement expresses a firm belief that the parties will not disregard constitutional norms and guidelines while arriving at a consensus.
