Irked by President’s refusal to sign two ordinances related with the elections, the government is preparing to forward seven ordinances at once to Shital Niwas. The cabinet meeting on Thursday discussed upon all seven ordinances which includes much awaited bill on Truth and Reconciliation and disappearances as well as the two previous ones that were sent back by the President’s office.

Minister for Information and Communication Rajkishor Yadav confirmed that the cabinet discussed the ordinances, “but the decision will be taken in the next cabinet meeting”, he said. The government’s move is being seen as reaction to President’s earlier decision.

If and when the ordinances are forwarded, it will put a moral pressure on the President, especially because the list of ordinances includes the bill on TRC and Disappearances. The two bills had been pending in the interim legislature for more than four years, which after consultation among the parties has been made into a single document.
