The government is preparing to send the two election-related ordinances rejected by President Ram Baran Yadav last week back to President’s office. Minister for Information and Communication Rajkishor Yadav confirmed that the two ordinances will be send back to Shital Niwas for approval. “ The President was within his rights to send back the ordinance the first, but he cannot keep rejecting it,” Yadav told
Nepali Times.

The move is likely to further escalate tensions between the President’s office and PMO. After the dissolution of the CA, the government has had an uneasy relationship with Shital Niwas over unclear jurisdiction. Althoughthe President has made it clear that the interim constitution does not grant his office any active executive role, his latest move has evoked speculations whether he is seeking an active role.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai met Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and informed him about the government’s decision. As a leader of the new FDRA, Dahal has urged Bhattarai to move the ordinance and said the President was overstepping his ‘constitutional limits’ by taking political decisions. Sources have revealed, Dahal assured Bhattarai that ‘people’ would support his government and if the President tried to be active, they would retaliate from the streets.
