The Unified CPN (Maoist)’s 7th plenum has been put off until Thursday after the former combatants and YCL representatives called for a probe into alleged financial irregularities within the party and thereby obstructed today’s meeting of the plenum.

Taking part in group discussion of the plenum, representatives of the ex-combatants choosing voluntary retirement and the Young Communist League (YCL) demanded that the financial transactions within the camps be made transparent, guilty of irregularities be suspended and investigated, lifetime subsistence allowance be given to those injured during the conflict and concrete and practical plan of party reforms be presented in the plenary, according to Coordinator of the Plenum Publicity Sub-Committee, Biwo Bhakta Dulal.

UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal announced the postponement of the meeting with a commitment to address the demands of the ex-fighters and YCL members after consulting the central committee.

Responding to the disgruntled party members after the meeting saw a brief disruption as they put forth their demands, Chairperson Dahal dubbed the demands ‘genuine’ and in line with the ‘policy of party cleansing and consolidation’ he had presented in the meeting, and added that it would ease party consolidating.

Deliberations on the political report presented by Chairperson Dahal that began on Tuesday last evening have been completed and team leaders would present conclusions of the discussion in the meeting on Thursday, said Coordinator Dulal.

Various leaders representing different sectors and regions were nominated as team leaders in group discussion.
