Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has sacked Minister for Labour and Transport Management, Sarita Giri for refusing to cancel the transfer of Purna Chandra Bhattarai, head of the Department of Foreign Employment and for her alleged involvement in corruption. Director General of DFOE, Bhattarai had taken some strong steps in reducing corruption and irregularities in the department and had annoyed unscrupulous manpower agencies who influenced minister Giri to remove the offcial.
Prime Minister Bhattarai had sought clarification from Giri over the controversial decision but instead of going to him she organised a press conference defending her step the next day. At the conference, Giri accused the bureaucrat of playing foul in the registration of new agencies and claimed she transferred him for further investigation.
