Fourth extension

NT (2)The term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has been again extended by six months. The last extension for three months expires on Wednesday.

The CA term was extended by six months on Tuesday with the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday passing the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007 (eleventh amendment) by two-third majority.

A total of 508 CA members took part in the voting held to pass the eleventh amendment to the Interim Constitution for extending the CA term. Five hundred and five CA members voted in favour of term extension while only three CA members voted against.

Minister for Energy Posta Bahadur Bogati presented a proposal before the meeting of the House seeking that it pass the eleventh amendment.

So far the term of the Constituent Assembly has been extended four times. The CA term was first extended for a year on 28 May 2010; for three months on 28 May 2011 and by three months again on August 29, 2011.

A meeting on Tuesday morning of the three big parties together with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) had decided to extend the term of the CA by six months.

The Legislature-Parliament will next meet at 3 pm on 30 November.
