With few minutes remaining for the CA tenure to expire, the meeting has been convened. The meeting was scheduled at eight in the morning but it was delayed due to the meeting between the three major parties. The Maoists and Nepali Congress have reportedly reached an understanding to extend the CA deadline by six months. The details of the negotiation are yet to come out but the it is understood that the parties have reached an agreement on completing the peace process within three months. The parties are now holding last minute talks with the Madhesi alliance even as the CA meeting is being convened. The Madhesi parties are still demanding the resignation of PM Jhala Nath Khanal as a pre condition to extension. They have also been demanding the recruitment of 10,000 Madhesis in the Nepal Army.

Meanwhile, RPP-Nepal has tabled its note of dissent against the extension. But it has been voted down by a voice majority. The party had been staging a protest outside the CA premises all day.

The government has already tabled its proposal for extension of the CA tenure. If the parties don’t come to any understanding with the Madhesi alliance, they still have the option to push for an extension by majority voting.
