Jayant prasadNewly appointed Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad is set to take office after an ‘agreemo’ proposing his name has been approved by the president’s office. The outgoing Ambassador Rakesh Sood is leaving this week after completing a difficult and controversial term in office.

Prasad has worked as India’s permanent representative to Conference on Disarmament and has served his term as Indian ambassador to Afghanistan and Algeria. Interestingly, his father Bimal Prasad had served as Indian Ambassador to Nepal (1991-1995) at a time when India and Nepal were not on best of terms. Two decades later appointment of his son is seen as Indian government’s effort to improve ties with Nepal.
