The banda called by Newa and Tamsaling State Council on Wednesday in several districts ended without any major incident. Nuwakot, Dhading, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur remained closed because of the banda. The banda was called in demand of timely promulgation of the new constitution by giving high priority to the people from the backward and indigenous communities.
Industries, academic institutions and shops remained closed due to the strike and vehicular movement came to a halt. However, ambulances, tourist vehicles and vehicles belonging to the press were allowed to ply without obstruction.
Meanwhile, Human Rights and Peace Society staged a sit-in in front of the Constituent Assembly (CA) building, Naya Baneshwor, calling for promulgation of the new constitution within the deadline, 28 May 28.
Society Chairman Homkant Chaulagain demanded the establishment of the State Restructuring Commission, the Commission on Disappeared People, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the National Peace and Rehabilitation Commission so as to create an atmosphere conducive for taking the peace process to conclusion.
