The coalition government has registered a bill seeking extension of the Constituent Assembly’s deadline in the parliament on Monday, 11 days before the country is supposed to adopt a new constitution.
The Maoist Party has said it will oppose the bill saying there is “no meaning in giving our approval for the CA extension deadline until the incumbent government remains,” according to the party’s spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma.
The party has said it will unveil a new ‘people’s constitution’ on 29 May if the current government does not step down.
The Maoists have said they want a Maoist-led unity government and the amendment of the interim constitution to replace the majority system with a consensus system for sharing power in order to approve the extension of the CA’s term.
