Even though Nepal lost to Bangladesh in men’s handball 40-18, the team showed a formidable effort in the 11th South Asian Games.

Handball was included in the SAG for the first time this year. In spite of irregular training, and that too in a basketball court, Nepali players put up a good show. This is the first international tournament for the Nepali handball team since 2006.

The captain and the keeper of the team, Sandesh Regmi, was brilliant while saving a dozen goal attempts from Bengali players.

After the game, Coach Prakash Singh Thakuri said: “These guys played well. We lacked experience in the mat court and also any international experience.”

Team member Padma Nepali was injured 15 minutes into the game and was unable to play. Nepali officials’ incompetence was displayed again as the medical team arrived at the court 20 minutes later although a seven-member medical team is in Dhaka for the games.

Cricket: Sri Lanka defeated Nepal in cricket by 64 runs. Batting first, Sri Lanka gave a blistering start by scoring166 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. Nepal scored just 102 run in 20 overs losing 3 wickets.
