MIN RATNA BAJRACHARYA

More Nepalis today are getting information online than the number of readers of all major dailies combined. This digital community is making up Nepal's new public sphere. Social media accords its users much more power to participate in the production of information, it is interactive, immediate and has multimedia content. Many of the estimated 3.5 million new voters in the next election will be Internet users. This crowd to protest a Maoist five-day strike in Kathmandu in 2010 (above) was mobilised largely by net activists. As with all media content, there are the good, the bad and the ugly. The Internet is a double-edged sword whose very freedom provides a forum for those against freedom.

"The Internet is a double-edged sword whose very freedom provides a forum for those against freedom."

--- very true. like agent bhatterai has been misusing internet himself and on the other hand doing everything to curve freedom of other users.

-- another good examples are nepalitimes who is hell bent to curve freedom and some of the commentators who press nepalitimes to prevent free circulation of views/thoughts.

hell too all of them. and is not amazing, all of them are bahun.

There goes the first one to comment with his brand of hate spewing out of his giant tank of ignorance. Why is he always the first one?? But that's okay. C'mon, nobody takes all this too seriously. Plus these pages would be too boring without the likes of certain individuals.
Thank you. We LOVE you. For keeping us entertained!

Aparently the group seems a promising one with people from different background gathering for genuine cause -a society free of violence-. However, it'd be good to know in depth the background of the organizers, participants and the real ideas behind such huge gathering. Just to let everyone aware of the fact that it is not merely being used as firebreak or whether it can really be converted into a new force in order to point the political class in the right direction of funtioning democracy or it can be regarded as a new emerging political power with a will to govern the country, which translated into the huge bank of votes could be the authentic e-revolution of the century.

The cybersphere in Nepal could be like a chinese proverb, " A bird doesnot sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."
