Patriotism

When the Maoists abandoned class politics and moved on to ethnic politics they also planted the seeds of separatism. The communal violence in Nepal is a direct result of that. Politics is a science of principles and beliefs. Whenever politicians have tried to force it according to their will, they have failed. This leads to disappointment and some people become ascetics, and some rebels. Mahanta Thakur is a perfect example of that.

Inside the NC, Thakur is a leader who is not only sincere but also has strong principles. If a person like Thakur, who devoted his entire life to NC, was compelled to move on to ethnic politics, there must be something seriously lacking in our political landscape. The politicians have to keep that in mind, otherwise we may end up like the former Soviet Union.

Ethnic politics began when Madhesi leaders sat at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and boldly talked about 'one Madhes one region'. Nepali people hate the fact that this happened. The fact that they sat in a room in some embassy in Kathmandu and talked so openly about this is against diplomatic decorum. But who will speak out against such an act? We are so helpless that we have no courage left to speak against such a naked interference. In Kathmandu KV Rajan is teaching us politics, while in Raxaul another Indian leader called Anil Kumar Singh is doing the same. As if Nepal is a small part of India, where the Indians can do what they like and get away with anything. The foreigners are taking advantage of our helplessness and attacking our nationhood.
