Protests against delay

A day after leaders of the Seven Party Alliance failed to arrive at a consensus regarding a proclamation aimed to make the House of Representative the supreme authority, protests have erupted in several areas of Kathmandu Valley again. The protest which began in Kalanki, came through Teku to Tripureswore, and headed towards Singha Darbar disrupting traffic along these routes for a few hours.

Protestors also torched four vehicles belonging to the government, burnt fires and shouted anti king slogans as well as slogans against Sher Bahadur Deuba for allegedly stating the king should be retained as the Supreme Commander in Chief of the Royal Nepal Army without a uniform. Deuba, who is the leader of the breakaway faction of the Nepali Congress, has denied making such statements and said that this was an attempt to tarnish his character.

Meanwhile Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the House would meet in three days and make some major announcements. Speaking at a press conference organized at the Ministry Sitaula requested the general public not to get agitated by the delays and warned that necessary action would have to be taken to prevent any violence.
