Normally, a big country would like to see a stable environment in its smaller neighbours because peace in the neighbourhood allows it to focus on economic and development activities. India appears to be doing just the opposite in Nepal.

It has pitted Nepali political forces one against the other, provided safe refuge to an armed rebel group and has indirectly instigated the killing campaign in Nepal. It has also resorted to propaganda that Nepal has become a playground of the United States, China and Pakistan. It was the same country that beat us to declaring the Maoists as terrorists. And ever since then, they have harped on about solving the Maoist problem through dialogue. These contradictions indicate that India does not want stability in Nepal, making Nepalis increasingly suspicious about true Indian intentions.
