Rising Christian population

The number of Christians in Nepal is growing by the day. In Pokhara alone there are almost 10,000 Christians. There are almost a million Christians in Nepal at present. Altogether there are more than 500 churches in Nepal.

Especially people of low-income groups are attracted to Christianity. People are attracted to the religion mainly because it is thought that one can get money, a house, and opportunities to visit various places.

The desire to convert to Christianity is high among the disadvantaged groups. Even though there is a law against people changing their religion and also to punish those that convert, Nepalis are converting into Christianity overnight.
The President of World Federation of Hindus, Pandit Narayan Prasad Pokhrel says 0.7 million Hindus have converted to other religions. According to data, 82 percent of Nepalis are Hindus, 12 percent Buddhists, 3 percent Muslims and Christians and others.
