Microbuses in the Capital

microbuses are making their appearance in the capital. The buses, alternatives to the Vikram Tempos, were imported under a special provision of paying only a one-percent tax.

His Majesty\'s Governmenthas tried to solve the problem of public transport by allowing the import of Japanese, Chinese and Indian microbuses. This will lead to various problems like pollution.

The Valley Traffic Police Office has forecast that microbuses will heighten the already existing traffic congestion. Instead of lessening, the number vehicles is increasing day by day. Some solution has to be found to tackle the growing problem.

The problem of parking buses, the routes they follow, their stops, parking at night, all these are problems that have to be tackled. Within a month 127 Toyota, 31 Nissan, 33 Japanese and 90 Chinese microbuses have entered Kathmandu.

Another 300 Indonesian petrol microbuses are being converted to LPG gas ones before coming to Kathmandu.
