Morcha unveils fresh protests

Even after agreeing on an all-party taskforce and beginning to discuss scope of the mechanism proposed by the big parties to resolve dispute over federal boundaries, Madhesi parties have refused to change form of their protests.

After India, which has overtly backed Madhesi Parties, urged all political sides to show ‘maturity and flexibility’ to reach a consensus, the agitating force had agreed to form a taskforce with the ruling-opposition parties to narrow down differences and prepare the framework of a deal. And some Madhesi leaders had also hinted at withdrawing sit-ins at border check-points to ease supply of fuel and other essential commodities.

But after three days of internal discussion, the Madhesi Morcha on Saturday said their ongoing protests, including sit-ins at check-points, will continue. The Morcha also announced a series of new protests, which includes programs like assemblies at district headquarters to organising photo exhibitions and documentary shows about their agitation, for more than a week.

Madhesi parties also said the first constitution amendment bill, if passed without revisions as per their suggestions, will not help forge a deal between the two sides. They also accused the major parties of not being serious to end the political crisis through talks.
