Petrol, diesel and kerosene have become cheaper with Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) slashing their prices yet again.

The NOC has decided to slash petrol price by Rs 2.50 and diesel and kerosene prices by Rs 1.50 each.

The new petroleum prices will come into effect from Monday midnight, according to the NOC’s spokesperson Mukunda Prasad Ghimire.

Now, petrol will sell for Rs 109 per litre. Similarly, diesel and kerosene will sell for Rs 86.50 each per. The previous selling price of petrol was Rs 111.50 per litre.

But, the NOC has not reduced price of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and aviation fuel. At present, customers are paying Rs 1470 for a cylinder of LPG gas.

According to Ghimire, LPG price has not been reduced as the NOC still incurs a loss of Rs 38 per cylinder. In the past, the NOC’s loss in LPG had reached up to Rs 211 per cylinder.

This is the eighth time that the NOC has reduced prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene since 29 September, 2014. Fuel prices have been dropping in Nepal almost every month after the government adopted an Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) last year.

As per this mechanism, fuel price automatically drops or rises in Nepal when Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) revises its petroleum price. The NOC buys all kinds of petroleum products from the IOC.
