In his final address to the nation as the Chairman of the Interim Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi announced his resignation as the Chief Justice on Tuesday.
“I am grateful for the service I have been able to extend in the judiciary,” said Regmi in his address. “Nothing stops me from returning to my position, but I will tender my resignation from the post of the Chief Justice.”
Regmi gave his last address to the nation from Singha Durbar. Outlining the achievements of his tenure, he thanked everyone who had supported his leadership.
“I took this position at a crucial situation,” Regmi said. “Under my leadership we were successfully able to conduct a fair and peaceful election to pave way for an elected government.”
In his address, Regmi said that while holding the election was the primary responsibility of his government, he gave priority to economic development and maintaining peace and security in the country.
Regmi said that he feels proud to hand-over the reins of the country to a new elected cabinet of ministers.
Regmi said: “I hope the country receives a new constitution within a year.”
