Anurag Acharya reports from Morang-6 that vote counting has been obstructed after MJF-L candidate Bhakti Majhi led his cadres into protests. Until then, Majhi had accumulated 5,881 votes whereas the NC’s Mahesh Acharya led with 7,119. Police was deployed to prevent clashes between cadres of the two parties, but the situation has somewhat improved after they got in touch with the Election Commission over the furore.

As it stands, the UML and NC have 21 victories each. UCPN(M) has won 4 seats, although senior leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha lost in Makwanpur, and MJF-L has won one seat so far. NC and UML are ahead in 65 and 66 other constituencies respectively, while UCPN(M) are leading in 20 and the MJF-L in four.

UCPN(M) Chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal repeated his party’s stance – of sitting out parliament if votes were not recounted – adding that they would even ask their elected MPs to refuse oath of office.
